Emily Maynard Bachelorette 2012 Premiere: Thoughts?

Emily Maynard is making her debut as The Bachelorette 2012 but the reaction from fans may be mixed. When it was announced that Emily would be filling the shoes of the lead this season, reviews from viewers were mixed to say the least. While some fans (mostly men J) were thrilled to see the beautiful blonde handing out the roses, others (mostly women J) were furious over ABC’s choice to cast Em as The Bachelorette and swore they would not be watching this season.

While I was on the fence as to whether I thought Emily was a good choice, many of my friends and many commenters on this site made it very clear why they didn’t want to see Emily in the lead role: She’s a fame whore.

It all started with Emily’s comments after Brad’s season of The Bachelor. She said she couldn’t stand the paparazzi, she felt bad for her daughter having to go through it and she would never – I quote never – want to be the Bachelorette.

A few months (and likely a hefty offer) later and Emily was singing a completely different tune.

It’s easy to see why viewers think Emily’s a fame whore (even some of her former friends have gone on the record to say that she’s only looking for fame and a rich guy who will treat her like a trophy wife) but I think I’ll reserve my judgement for after the first few episodes.

What do you think of Emily as The Bachelorette? Do you think she’s an annoying, gold-digging fame whore?
